The KCSS Executive Director, Florian Qehaja attended the White House Summit on Countering Violent Extremism which was held on 19 February in Washington DC.
This summit brought together over eighty governments and representative of Ministerial level, as well as representatives from civil society, private sector, faith leaders and academic leaders. Summit was addressed by President Obama which stated the need to unite in preventing the extremism and preserving religious tolerance around the globe. The Summit was organized under the auspices of US State Secretary, John Kerry. The aim of this meeting was to structure and coordinate the efforts of the affected countries by the extremist groups around the globe.
In the margins of the Summit, Florian Qehaja had meetings with representatives of different states, civil society and private sector. The summit has been a great opportunity for networking and interaction with the experts and leaders from across the globe. The aim of the summit does fit into KCSS scope of increasing security and preserving stability in which the recent extremists moves in Kosovo and the region where detrimental to these efforts.
In addition to the Summit, Florian Qehaja attended meetings with the representatives of US State Department and Washington based think tanks. On the 20th of February, Florian Qehaja also attended a conference organized by Washington Institute for Near East Policy which was titled “Rehabilitation & Reintegration of Returning Foreign Fighter.” There, Florian Qehaja met number of think tank representatives from Washington and the world.
